  • EUROGUSS 2022 Preview

    Nov 12, 2021

EUROGUSS will open its doors again in January 2022.

As the annual highlight and start-of-year gathering for the die casting industry. EUROGUSS, the international exhibition for die casting, processes and products, will take place again in Nuremberg from 18 to 20 January 2022. After two turbulent years, the die casting sector will now come together again as one at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. Around four months before the start of the event, the stand space already booked is more than 90 percent of the 2020 display area. The enormous diversity of the sector will be showcased in the four halls and will cover machinery and equipment, processes, toolmaking and mould fabrication, foundries and associated technologies. EUROGUSS is complemented by an extensive supporting programme that includes competitions, presentations, and the German Die Casting Congress.

“The very high level of registrations shows just how much the die casting community is looking forward to finally meeting one another and interacting in person again at EUROGUSS,” says Christopher Boss, Director EUROGUSS at NürnbergMesse. “I am especially pleased that a lot of well-known exhibitors have increased their stand space yet again compared with 2020. EUROGUSS offers visitors and exhibitors alike the ideal conditions for safe in-person networking.”

Apart from Germany, the countries with the largest exhibitor contingents include Italy, Turkey, Spain and Austria. Overall, around 60 percent of all exhibitors come to Nuremberg primarily from other European countries. In addition, several pavilions have already been announced. For example, the Italian foundry association AMAFOND is organising an exhibition of the Italian die casting industry on a display area of around 600 square metres. Other pavilions will put the spotlight on surface technology and additive manufacturing. There will also be special display areas for research and educational institutions, and government-subsidised stands for young companies and start-ups.

Competitions: die casting excellence live in action
EUROGUSS not only provides an overview of the enormous diversity and wide-ranging applications for die casting technology; it also showcases the excellence and capabilities of a sector that plays a key role in industrial supply chains. The European Die Casting Award, which is being presented for the first time in 2022 by the VDD (Association of German Die Casting Foundries) and EUROGUSS, will honour some of these outstanding achievements. The competition is supported by the BDG (German Foundry Association), Aluminium Deutschland e. V. and EFM (European Association for Magnesium) and serves to highlight the diverse applications, innovative strength, high quality and capabilities of die casting as a forming process using the materials aluminium, magnesium and zinc. Awards will be presented for the three best submissions in each material category. The awards ceremony will take place during EUROGUSS, and visitors will be able to look at the winning workpieces.

The EUROGUSS Talent Award, which was introduced in 2020, will again recognise the best emerging talent in the sector. The authors of bachelor’s or master’s theses relating to an innovation, improvement or new applications in die casting including its entire value chain will be given the opportunity to pitch their work to a high-calibre jury. The winners not only receive attractive prizes but also get to present themselves directly to decision-makers from potential employers.

Supporting programme focuses on future success and sustainability
The supporting programme for EUROGUSS goes into various issues in more depth and explores the current hot topics in the industry. On the first day of the event on 18 January, for example, Bayern Innovativ GmbH is organising a discussion panel on the two relevant issues of additive manufacturing and digitalisation in the die casting sector. It will give interested participants the chance to find out about the opportunities and challenges of these technologies and discuss them with experts. They will also learn how digitalisation can improve processes and methods and form the basis for new business models for foundries and their sub-suppliers.

The aim of the EUROGUSS Buyers’ Day, a new addition to the programme on the second day of the event on 18 January, is to provide the necessary overview to enable smart procurement decisions. Among other things it will look at what the trends are in purchasing, the direction that die casting procurement is taking due to technical and legal changes like the German supply chain act, and how raw materials purchasing can be made more efficient in future. The Buyers’ Day is being organised by the BME (German Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics), a professional association that has been working closely with purchasers from a wide range of sectors for decades. The various speakers and experts have been involved in procurement for a long time and know what the challenges are.

Sustainability is another topical issue that will be tackled by EUROGUSS. Many players along the process chain have already taken initiatives in this area, for example with plans to achieve carbon neutrality. At the same time, OEMs and policymakers are increasing their requirements and regulations. A sustainability survey commissioned by EUROGUSS will provide an overview of the industry’s engagement in this area. The independent study, based on a survey of EUROGUSS exhibitors, is being conducted by the Department of Corporate Sustainability at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. The results will be presented during the exhibition.
The 21st German Die Casting Congress, which is being held concurrently with EUROGUSS in NCC Ost at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, is being organised as always by the VDD (Association of German Die Casting Foundries) and will also provide extensive insights into die casting.
